Guide for Library Users

A library card and a four-digit PIN code are required to borrow the material. At the library's self-check machines, you can borrow and return material, as well as check your own data. At the self-check machines, you can also use a mobile card, which you can find in your own account at Turku UAS Finna. Check out the instructions for logging in at Turku UAS Finna.

The most common problems with self-check machine:

  • The machine does not read the mobile library card:
    • Adjust the screen of the cell phone to make it brighter or
    • Adjust the black screen of the phone to light
  • Borrowing fails:
    • Make sure you don't have too much unpaid fines or fees (15€ or more). You can pay the fees in Turku UAS Finna.
    • Is the item you are holding borrowable? Reference material cannot be borrowed at the self-check machine. Find the same title from the borrowable collection or make a reservation in the Turku UAS Finna.
    • Did you rush? Start borrowing again and take the item to the counter calmly, one at a time. Remove the item only after its title appears on the screen.
  • The material alerts at the alarm gate:
    • Did you remember to borrow the material you picked up from the shelf for reserved books?
    • The item's security tag has not been deactivated. Please return to the library and borrow the item again.

If you are not able to borrow, please leave the book at the customer service desk or in the return drop box, do not take it outside the library.

Loan periods vary depending on the material.

  • Books and theses 28 days
  • Electronic theses available in the Turku UAS Finna search service

Short loans, reference material, and material from a non-borrowable collection are not available for reservations. You can pick up the reservation from the Turku UAS campus library of your choice, with the exception of EduCity. Reserved and returned books are transported from one campus library to another once a week.

    • you already have the same edition of the same title on loan. The system does not allow you to reserve material that is on your loans at the time of reservation.

The material is arranged in alphabetical order according to the title of the reserved item. We will send you a notice to your e-mail when

  • the item you have reserved is available
  • your due date is approaching
  • your loans are overdue (3 notices)

After the third overdue notice, an invoice will be sent for the unreturned material. If the material has been invoiced, you can no longer replace it in the library and the returned material will not be refunded. You can keep the material, but the invoice you receive must be paid in full.

We will also email you twice a year with a summary of your loans and/or payments. If your loans are not late or lost, there is no need to react to the message.

Notifications to Turku UAS students and staff are sent by default to the Turku UAS email address. Please let us know if your email address changes, you graduate or your employment at Turku UAS ends.
