E-resources Help: Journal.fi

Journal.fi

Journal.fi is a service for Finnish open access journals

Journal.fi has about 150 open access Finnish journals and yearbooks. Almost all of the journals are scientific, i.e. peer-reviewed journals. Most of the journals can be read for free as soon as they are published, and some of the journals become open access after a publication delay (embargo). The publication delay is usually from 3 months to a year. Articles from older issues are added to the service retrospectively.

Search in the Journal.fi service

On the front page of the service, the search includes all of the content in the service, i.e. all journals and article full texts.

On the journal page, the search is limited to the content of the selected journal. In most cases the search button can be found at the top right corner of the page.

The search results can be filtered based on publication date (Published after - Published before) or by author.

Asterisk * is used as a wildcard and can be used at both ends of the word.

  • globali* > globalization, globalize, globalized, globalisation, globalise, globalised...
  • *communicat* > communicate, communication, telecommunication, miscommunication...

For phrase search, use quotation marks. NOTE: You cannot use asterisks in a phrase search.

Write search operators (AND, OR) in capital letters. By default, the service uses OR operators between search terms written one after the other. If the search results are supposed to contain all search terms, use AND operators between the terms.

  • advertis* promot*, or alternatively: advertis* OR promot*
  • preschool* AND activit*

The number of results is shown below the search results list. From there, you can go to the next search result page.

You can organise the search results in three different ways. From the dropdown list, select Relevance, Author (first name of the author of the article) or Publication Date (latest first/oldest first).
