An open access publication is openly accessible by everyone online, free of charge. Research outputs can be published open access in different ways.
An article processing charge (APC) may be charged for publishing an article in an open access journal (Gold OA) or in a hybrid journal. The charge is to cover costs of publishing, such as peer review process. The charge can be paid by the author(s), their employer(s) or research funder. Charges vary between a couple of hundred to thousands of euros. There are also OA journals, which do not charge any open access publishing fees.
The Turku UAS staff is entitled to discounts on article processing charges of some subscribed journals. The discounts are based on the agreements the FinELib consortium with the publishers. Ask more about the discounts on APCs by sending email to julkaisutiedonkeruu@turkuamk.fi.

There is a limited amount of OA articles without APCs, a pool of 630 within the FinELib consortium.

Turku UAS' staff can publish as corresponding authors can their articles open access without article processing charge (APC) in Elsevier hybrid journals eligible for the agreement. There is a limited number of free open access articles available during the agreement period 2021-2023.

Turku UAS' staff can publish their articles open access in Emerald Journals with free open access vouchers with CC BY -license, meaning that there are no article processing charges for the author. For the year 2021 there are 118 vouchers. In the following two years of the agreement period, no vouchers are needed to publish open access articles.

In scientific publications, an affiliation is mentioned with the author’s name. Affiliation refers to the author’s home organization, higher education institution or research institution, as a member of which the publication has been created.
It is important that the article you publish contains your name and affiliation Turku University of Applied Sciences or Turun ammattikorkeakoulu:
N.B. Affiliation can contain more than one organization. For example, if your employer is Turku UAS and you participate in a project coordinated by another organization, both organizations can be listed as affiliations with your name in a publication.
