E-resources Help: SFS Online

SFS Online

Students must install FileOpen Plugin to their home computers to read standards. If the Plugin is not installed, standards can be browsed and searched but not opened.

Use Firefox or Edge browsers.

Mobile use

Mobile use is not supported by the service.

Solving technical issues

Encrypted file and/or error message "There was an error contacting server or the server’s response could not be decoded. Please check your internet connection. If this error persists please contact the publisher and present the text of this message."

Connection to the server confirming read access within the specified time failed. That announcement is only temporary and should resolve by the next day.

PDF file doesn't open

Try these measures:

  • Try another browser
  • Update the browser
  • Clear browser's cache
  • Check if you have the latest version of FileOpen (students only)
  • Uninstall FileOpen and reinstall it (students only)
  • Open Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Reader > File > Open the PDF from your downloads
  • Change your default PDF reader: find any PDF file from your computer > right-click on the thumbnail of the PDF file > Open with > Choose another app > select Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Reader > check the box Always use this app to open .pdf files > OK
  • Reset browser settings to default
    • Chrome: three dots icon > Settings > Reset settings
    • Firefox: three horizontal lines icon > Help > More troubleshooting information > Refresh Firefox > Refresh Firefox > Finish
    • Edge: three dots icon > Settings > Reset settings
